Covid Guidance for September

Things are fairly normal next year

  • All children start and finish at the same time (8:45am and 3:00pm)
  • We will not be having bubbles, although the way we have organised lunch and playtimes mean that children will only spend time with one other class over the year.  We reorganised things in this way to create calmer, nicer play and lunch times and the added benefit is that it will also reduce possible transmission.
  • Close contacts of positive individuals in school (children and adults) no longer need to isolate.
  • While infection rates are high in Cornwall we will be having assembly videos in class using the large interactive boards.

Things we will continue to do

  • If your child is symptomatic we will ask that you isolate until a PCR test confirms if they have coronavirus.  If they are positive they will need to follow current guidance and self isolate.
  • Staff will continue to test twice a week with lateral flow tests.
  • There will be a continuing emphasis on hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene (when you sneeze catch it, bin it) and good ventilation in rooms (windows open).
  • Where possible we will have meetings and conversations outside.
  • We have been told that home learning next year will be highly unlikely but we still need to be prepared.  All the usual APPS are available and home learning would follow the approach we adopted previously with online videos from class teachers on Edmodo.  If your child had to individually isolate then bespoke homework packs would be provided.
Changes to the school day in September

Next September will be a fresh start after what has been a challenging year.  Full details of how our school day is changing, including new start and finish times, can be found under the 'New School Day' tab above.  The at a glance guide is included below.

Our Library is online

Teachers will have supplied you with Myon log in details.

Once your child has logged on, they will have access Myon which is like Netflix for books. There are over 5700 books that you child can read.  A whole library at their finger tips.

The books are carefully levelled so they match your child’s reading level.  There are thousands of books to read, and children have the option of reading themselves, or having the book read to them.  They can instantly look up words they do not know and are able to take short online multiple-choice quizzes at the end of the book to see how well they have understood.

This uses the same accelerated reader technology we use in school with the older children (KS2) and teachers can assess and feedback on how your child is doing.  The children already understand what to do but just in case, each teacher has provided a short tutorial on their class page on the school website.  Just click on the ‘Classroom’ tab and select your child’s class.

Happy reading.

Online Safety
At a time where we are expecting children to be online more than before, to complete school work, communicate with friends it is so important that they can keep themselves safe.
Head over to our Keeping Safe page for more information on keeping them safe online. For the younger ones they can meet Jessie and her friends and there is a great game for the older pupils.
