Outdoor learning

This week in Outdoor Learning we planted a miniature forest!  We used an idea from Japan called a Miyawake Forest.  It is a way to plant trees closer together in small spaces, it helps them to be protected and to grow better and quicker.  Thanks to Elanor Twigg, we were given some native trees by the Forest for Cornwall, of different ages and types.  We also cut and planted some willow from the school field.  Thanks to Reception Class, Nursery and Year 4, helping to dig, plant and mulch we now have our own Miyawake Forest right here at Berrycoombe.  Next week we hope to cook some Japanese inspired food on the fire to celebrate our Forest.

On another Outdoor Learning note, we have noticed that we do not have many spare wellies in larger sizes for the older classes.  We have plenty of wellies for the younger ones but if you have a spare pair of larger adult sized wellies at home that you could donate to us, that would be amazing.
